About Tammy Van Boening
Tammy L. Van Boening, Owner and Principal of Spectrum Writing, brings to Spectrum Writing 30+ years of writing experience in academic and professional settings. Her work and career have always been inspired by a passion for writing. She wholeheartedly believes in the transforming power of clear, effective written communication. Clients are always impressed by Tammy’s natural ability to take the most complex of thoughts and ideas and create clear, concise, and accurate documentation. Tammy’s writing experience covers a wide range of topics, styles, and products, with an emphasis in documentation supporting the entire product development life cycle in the life and physical sciences industries. She has written everything from straightforward procedural manuals to training guides to informational articles, technical notes, and white papers.
She began her career in the early 90s writing in the life sciences field. She initially authored SOPs, training manuals and policy and procedure manuals for a variety of companies, including Beckman Industries. During her tenure at Beckman, she had her first foray into writing documentation for software, and her software writing career took off from there. Since that time, she has developed and delivered technical documentation and training for a variety of industries, including healthcare and medicine, science, aviation, manufacturing, engineering, insurance, biotechnology, and GIS.
Ms. Van Boening holds a Bachelor of Science (Phi Beta Kappa and with Special Distinction) from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Science from the University of Arizona, and a BS in Education from the State of California. She also has a certification in ISD from the Ruth Colvin Institute.
She is an active Senior Member in the STC, and served as Membership Manager from 2005 through 2007 for its Rocky Mountain chapter. She has also taught part time or presented seminars at various colleges throughout the Denver and San Diego areas, and at national-level seminars.
